Club Honors – Distinguished Service and Life Membership

The criteria and the process for the consideration of nominees for the Club Honors of Distinguished Service and Life Membership are fixed by the current Club Constitution.  Members may nominate a member for the Club Honor award of Distinguished Service and the club’s most meritorious honor of Life Membership.

The Criteria as per the Articles

“The Distinguished Service Award may be conferred upon a member who has rendered extraordinary service to the club or by virtue of meritorious action”.

Life Membership may be conferred upon a member who has been previously granted the “Distinguished Service Award” and then to continues to render extraordinary service to the club”.

The Process for Selection and Ratification of Club Honors as per the Club’s Articles

  1. Initial nominations for both Life Membership and Distinguished Service are “investigated” i.e. the claims made in the nomination, by a “standing committee” consisting of the President, Secretary, two Life Members and the Club Captain.
  2. The Standing Committee report their “findings” to the Club’s elected Club Board members for adoption, which must be “approved by a two thirds majority of those present”.
  3. Nominations are then “considered at the ensuing” AGM where a “75%” majority of members present is required to “carry the proposal”.

Guidelines for Submission of Club Honors Nominations

  1. Any club member may submit nominations.
  2. The nomination must address the specific criteria for the individual Club Honor award.
  3. Nominations for the Distinguished Service Award should demonstrate a continuous and long-term commitment by the nominated member to Surf Life Saving and Queenscliff SLSC.  This commitment should have rendered extraordinary service to the club over a number of years.
  4. The Distinguished Service Honor Award may also be granted to a member by virtue of their meritorious action, e.g. an extraordinary rescue.
  5. Completed nominations are to be delivered by hand to the Club Office or emailed to Queenscliff Club Administration (Carla Thornton - admin@queenscliffslsc.org.au ) by Wednesday 27th April 2016 at 5pm.
