Masters competitors are aged over 30 years of age as at 30 September. They need to be proficient SLSA Bronze Medallion members and have met patrol
Masters may only compete in their own age group or the next youngest category in a particular event if there are insufficient starters to conduct an event in their own age category.
Masters can only compete in one team age category in each event discipline conducted at a surf carnival. Where a team event consists of only 2 competitors (eg double ski) its the age of the youngest competitor that determines the age category. Where the event consists of 3 or more competitors the combined ages of the competitors applies.
* Note that the age is the age as at 30 September prior to the season which is used (not the age one is at the date of the carnival).
Some events are for male or female competitors only but if only one event is conducted then its open to males and females.
For individual events age categories are generally: 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69 and 70+.
These are also the age categories for team events where there are only 2 competitors per team, such as double ski and board rescue, with the age of the youngest competitor determining the age category.
For team events (where there are 3 competitors in a team) age categories are generally: 110 years; 130 years; 150 years; and 170 years. There are generally male and female team events from 110 years to 150 years with the 170 years being open to both males and females.
