Skills Maintenance is required every season for certain award/certificate holders:
- Bronze Medallion
- Surf Rescue Certificate
- Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue
- Gold Medallion
- Advanced Resuscitation Techniques
- IRB Crew
- Silver Medallion IRB Driver
- Rescue Water Craft Operator
In order to patrol, operate rescue craft or compete in SLS competitions in the current season, Skills Maintenance must be completed by the 31st December – so please do your proficiency at the earliest available date.
Members are required to complete the Skills Maintenance theory component online for the following awards, via the SLSA Members Area eLearning portal, then click on Training Library and select “Skills Maintenance”:
- Bronze Medallion, or
- SRC
The relevant theory modules must be completed prior to undertaking your practical proficiency.
The practical elements of radios, signals, board rescue, run/swim/run and carries should be undertaken with your
Patrol Captain on patrol. (The run/swim/run can also be undertaken at the Sunday Club Swim at 11am).
CPR practicals with a Club trainer will be provided upstairs in the Club house on the following dates:
9 – 11am Sunday 20 October
7 – 8.30pm Tuesday 5 November
9 – 11am Sunday 10 November
9 – 11am Sunday 24 November
In season 24/25, Silver Medallion Beach Management award members must complete the Surf Risk Rating training module, accessible in the Training Library of the eLearning portal.
ART, IRB Crew and IRB Driver Skills Maintenance will be organised by the Club, with dates announced on this page in due course.
Get a head start on your practical proficiency by reviewing these Skills Maintenance Training Videos.
Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue, Gold Medallion and Rescue Water Craft Operator Skills Maintenance is provided by Branch at an appropriate time to be advised.
For members with an expired Bronze Medallion award, the current requalification process is an in-depth proficiency after three years and a full award course after five years. For an in-depth proficiency by the Club to be sufficient, the member must hold a Cert II in Public Safety PUA20119, and be competent with the various BM Assessment Tasks. Changes to the BM since originally awarded can be assessed through the latest process chart on the SLS website. If members need more skilling, they can be placed in a Bronze group and can be later issued with PUA20119.
